Touching your partner miles apart…there’s an app for that!

While distance may in fact make the heart grow fonder, those of us in long-distance relationships are pretty aware that it can also lead to some intense sexual frustration. When our partners are miles or even states apart, visiting them can lead to some expensive travelling costs, which are often unrealistic to pay every time we want to have some “one-on-one” time with our partners. With March approaching and midterms coming up, while some couples are sneaking away for some much needed “stress relief” and “study break” sessions, those of us whose partners are far away are wondering how to cope. When late night phone calls, sexy Skype sessions and Snapchat pictures just are no longer enough, what do we do? Well don’t worry because there’s a whole new way to deal with the distance! Luckily, for those folks who have an iPhone or Android-based phone (sorry Blackberries), there’s a new app that can bring our partners and us together, even when we’re miles away!

A quick search in an app store for “Closer ToGetHer” will bring you to this nifty little app that only costs $4.99. (Maybe we’re a little worried our parents will see the charge on the bill, but no worries because if we use the Apple app store, we can always pay with those left over gift cards! Don’t forget to thank grandma and grandpa!)

So what does it do? Well, the description says, “Closer ToGetHer lets you ‘touch’ your partner, even if you’re half a world away,” which basically means that both partners download the app, and one controls the vibrations that get sent to the other! It’s essentially a long-distance, remote-controlled, vibrating cell phone. Maybe by this point we’re maybe thinking, “Okay that’s cool, but I’m not sure how I feel about my phone being near my fun zones.” Well, no problem because this app works with the OhMiBod brand of vibrators. OhMiBod vibes are designed to vibe along with music from a music source (iPod, iPhone, Mp3, etc.) and are made to work with this app as well! The app description goes on to say that you can “Plug in (to the headphone jack) an OhMiBod personal massager and send or receive a massage no matter how far apart you are.”

Here are some links to the app and a YouTube video explaining how it works!

If connecting a vibe is something we’re interested in, we can check out the OhMiBod vibe selection here! http://www.ohmibod.com

But let’s say we don’t really want to drop the money on a vibe, but still want the app and want to “touch” our partner anytime of the day, well no problem! The app works regardless of a vibe being plugged in and could be used to massage any area of the body. The way it works is simple, you select which mode you want (Vibe Solo, Send Vibes or Receive Vibes) and go from there. We are then brought to the “slider” or “massage ball” screen where either we, or our partner, adjust the speed and intensity of the vibes. (Sound confusing? Check out the YouTube video posted above!)

The great thing about this app is that we don’t have to be in a long-distance, or any, relationship at all to use it! If we’re single and just want to vibe alone, it’s a great app that works the same way, but we are in control of our own vibes. Or maybe we’re not single, and our partner is right here in Madison, well, if we’re parting your separate ways for Spring Break, this can be a fun going away present that’s guaranteed to keep break from getting boring! Once we have this app, the fun doesn’t stop there! If our partner is far away, and has this app, try making it extra visual by video chatting or Skyping while taking turns sending one another vibes. When we’re reunited with our partner again, we can always use the app together and watch them react to different vibrations and sensations that we send them!

Distance can get difficult, but there are always new ways to make the miles seem manageable. Whether we’re going to see our partners soon or just want to experiment with new toys and vibrations, the Sex Out Loud office (Suite 3143 in the SAC at 333 East Campus Mall) has safer sex supplies and lube for our toys and our partners! Stop by and stock up!
